Red Monday, part 2

Managed to get out my door last night and on the trail by 630pm. Startled 2 pretty big bucks huffing and puffing up the ridge line behind my house. I'm sure the sound of me sucking air was horrifying. Shut up. It's a significant hill. Made it almost to the top before I met wanker, Katie and the dog coming down. Being on the Red Mountain Trail alone in the dark is both terrifying and fricking awesome. Heavily wooded on both sides, crunchy snowpacked trail, 35ish degrees, clear sky and the stars were amazing. Jogged most of the way down, with a big stoopid happy dog grin on my face. I'm sure I would have progressed upwards a bit faster if I wasn't checking behind me every 20 yards for the mountain lion...

Helloooo. And Goodbye...

Some good pics from the Focus on the Beer fellas from 2013 and beer world. Take a look here. Craft beer and new breweries popping all over our turf this past year: Red Leg and Great Storm completing the Beermuda triangle anchored by Trinity, Nano 108 opened their doors to the public and Lofty Brewing should have beers on tap in town, although I don't know where yet, with tap room plans pending, Kevin Beity passed the reins over to Smiling Toad, and a newish kinda concept for this part of the world, the Wild Goose Meeting house opened its doors around Thanksgiving, serving craft beer, wine and lots of fancy pants coffee and tea. Whew! Manitou is finally getting a brewery, due to open February-ish, with Fossil Brewing in Old Colorado City area close on its heels and a brewery that I know nothing about ~ Fieldhouse Brewing, setting up shop on the south end of Tejon and the GreenMan Tap Room, now occupying the old Church at the corners of Weber and Costilla, due to open Spring of 2014. All this as we say good-bye to Kinfolks, a Manitou 'tradition' for some of us. After being closed for a week, word leaked out that they would open their doors for one final night last night. The place was packed, and the beer was aflowin'. They will be terribly missed, and not just because they were the ONLY place in Manitou where you could take your pooch to drink with you. Always good beer on tap and we'll all miss the thrill of playing the pbr cap game and the chance of getting a free one. A bunch of us had some really good times in that tiny little place. Here's hoping that it's back very soon.

Red Monday

Off to chase the real runners up Red Mountain. I'll probably get to the trail head as they come out... ~sigh~ Earns my beer later at Kinfolks, though. Heard a terrible rumor from the Wanker earlier that Kinfolks is closing their doors for good. Opening up tonight only one last time. If you feel the need to say So Long, seems like there's a group gathering.

Running shite, Part 1 of...

Out on Trail today - tried to investigate a way from The Social Aide and Pleasure Club up the ridge line then east-ish on Intemann on to the High School and ultimately, to Red Rocks Canyon. Intemann dead-ends just east of Pawnee or so says a landowner. Posted, chain across trail and what looks like electrical fence up the hill, since I considered going up to go down. Deciding it wasn't worth the effort or getting shot, I worked my around on the paved roads, eventually ending up behind the high school, where I located the Intemann trailhead again.. Went back West from there and found where I missed the trail signs coming east. Gorgeous day ~ no gloves, no hat, sunshine, lots of exploring little side trails, one of which had a very old set of stone steps leading up - surprised a deer family at the top. They weren't very interested in me and just had a look before going back to their nibbling. Out just over an hour, no idea on mileage. Now off to get wood out of the truck and haul it up my ridiculous stairs... That ought to effectively kill my legs for the rest of the say. Gotta save some for the Reverend Horten Heat show tonight!

Is this what they meant when they said 'time flies?'

Holy Crap. Two Years since I updated my crappy blog??! Ugh. Well, givin' it a shot again. I'll do my best to keep the emo shit out of it. I'm getting pretty sick of Facebook... Haven't been running. In quite some time. As a matter of fact, haven't been doing anything for exercise and I'm pretty sure that's why I feel like crap. Heading to Salida for the Half in March 2014. Wanker has kindly agreed to let me sleep on the floor, for a nominal fee, of course. I suspect I'll have to suck it up and go do the Rescue Run on New Years Day. I need a good arse-kickin'. Anyways, be seeing a little more of you soon. Merry Christmas and all that Jazz.
